(Di)stressed Out

HTML tutorial

With collaterals, tests, and hours of homework, stressed students are a commodity. But there’s one type of stress that students are happy to wear, distressed jeans. This trend, which has experienced a resurgence in popularity, are a necessity to everyone’s wardrobe. First seen in the mid 20th century, the distressed trend no longer has to R.I.P. The trend has been revived, no longer associated with angst ridden teens, ripped jeans have become a fall staple.

While distressed jeans usually have a slimmer, more tapered fit, that isn’t always the case, as distressed patterns are also seen on ‘boyfriend jeans,’ where these rips and tears can be found on a looser fitting pair of jeans. Giving the age old trend a modern twist.

Although these jeans aren’t an item you would wear to an interview, they are perfect for a casual hangout after school. Ripped jeans are incredibly versatile; pair them with a subtle top and plain white sneakers to draw attention to the rips, or sport a varsity jacket and adidas shoes for an athletic look. A leather jacket and doc martens will toughen up the outfit while a blazer and dress shoes will give them a more polished, classier feel. The possibilities are endless.

Whether you’re a guy or gal, these jeans can serve as a great go-to pair of pants to include into your rotation. Found almost everywhere, getting your hands on a pair shouldn’t be a problem. But if you’re hard on cash, it’s always possible to distress jeans yourself. All you need is a rough rock and a pair of old jeans. But remember, don’t make the rips too large, the dress code prohibits any rips that expose too much of your leg.

When having a hard time picking an outfit, remember that you can always relieve some stress by going distressed!
