On March 28, the boys baseball team won their second consecutive game as well as their first home game against Metropolitan High School at Kissena Park. The heart-stopping game consisted of many great as well as lucky plays amongst the entire team, bringing them to victory once again and setting a strong platform for the upcoming season.

Metropolitan started off with a strong four run lead in the first inning. Yet by the bottom of the second inning, THHS had matched their four runs, tying the game up. By the top of the fifth, Metropolitan scored one more run, making it 5-4, in their favor. Luckily, THHS was able to strike fast, making the score 6-5 in the bottom of the fifth. In the bottom of the sixth, they followed it with one more run, making the final score 7-5, THHS.

Senior Harry Quinn started off the game strong as their pitcher, but it was freshman Alexander Lebeau who finished it off, bringing the heat by only allowing one run. Lebeau performed strongly using his knuckleball pitch, helping lead the team to their second win.

Regarding his input, Lebeau stated, “I was feeling pretty confident since I came in after Harry in the first game that we played. We have really been playing as a team, so I knew my team had my back.”

The team held a strong infield, allowing a minimum number of runs to come in from Metropolitan. As for Metropolitan, they performed several mental and physical errors, allowing Harris to successfully score.

One memorable moment seen during this game was from THHS’s pinch runner junior Andrew Palma. In an attempt to steal home, Palma was called out sliding under the tag, losing the run. According to the home plate umpire, Palma was out at home, but according to the rest of the team he was clearly safe. Yet this setback did not stop the boys from accomplishing their second consecutive win of the season.

Palma said, “I felt the team performed well although there are some things we can work on, but I feel that mid-season we’ll be back in form.”
